Roadside Cottage: Location
The cottage is a stone's throw from the sea and in an excellent spot for viewing seals, otters and seabirds. It is in Leebitton, Sandwick which is twelve miles from Lerwick. Car parking is right outside the front door. The shop/bakery/post office is around ¾ of a mile away. News of local events are posted on the shop door. Nearby is Sandwick’s modern swimming pool including steam room. A short walk takes you to the village of Hoswick where you can call along the Warp and Weft Visitor Centre to view the knitwear and local crafts before relaxing in the café over a cup of tea or a bowl of soup after your swim.
When at Leebitton it is a must to contact Tom Jamieson, Tel: 01950 431367, or online at www.mousaboattrips.co.uk to organise a trip to the Island of Mousa (opposite the cottage) to see the world’s largest and best preserved pictish broch. Also there is a seal colony at the south of the isle, where the seals can be observed closely.
A Couple of our Guests' Comments
“What a delightful cottage! Everything neat, attractive & comfortable. Views from every room and the special magic of sitting up in bed to watch the sea only 70 feet away. Crockery etc. nice and everything works well. Seals for neighbours can’t be bad!” Alison R Noyes, Lauder
“We have had a wonderful week – the cottage was warm and welcoming and we really appreciated the delicious shortbread and the Shetland music CDs. The walk to Noness is beautiful and we sat for hours at the broch – a good place for porpoise and seal watching. We had a very good view of the otter by the pier one evening” Brian and Fiona Golding Southampton
